We have the ability to get to the root cause of a problem. Sometimes, a problem has been identified and help is needed to determine the root cause and countermeasures. At others, a review is needed of the entire system or process to identify and eliminate waste—operator idle time, product defects, machine downtime, etc. Working with the concerned parties insures buy-in, and the teaching environment allows for the methods to be applied to similar situations.
