Get connected! How-tos for young professionals

As someone that identifies as a young professional (YP), are you connected? Here are a few ways on how you can create connections and get involved.

If you are not already receiving the Columbus Chamber's Events and Activities for Young Professionals e-mail, then you are missing out! This weekly e-mail contains information relevant for YPs: events, activities, job and volunteer opportunities, local recognition nomination opportunities, surveys and more. Subscribe to receive the Chamber's weekly YP e-mail here.

The Chamber convenes ad-hoc issue-oriented forums for YPs called the Young Professionals' Exchange. YPs are invited to dialogue with, receive information from and respond to leaders of established organizations regarding issues that impact the future of our community. These forums are offered at no cost and most often in conjunction with the Chamber Business AfterHours, a free networking event in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. YPs are invited to attend the Business AfterHours immediately following the YP Exchange forums to networks with hundreds of business professionals. The dates for the 2009 YP Exchanges are:

• Tuesday, August 4
• Wednesday, October 21

Are you involved in a YP or professionals organization? If not, you should be as there are more than 60 organizations to choose from! But, don't be overwhelmed. Your search is made easy by checking out the directory of local YP and professional organizations for Columbus residents or non-residents looking to relocate. There is something for everyone whether you are looking for social or networking opportunities, giving back to the community or connecting with individuals in your industry. Some organizations have free membership, and are not just for YPs, but the "young at heart."

If you are a local employer that is hiring (hurray!), please contact Robbie Banks, young professionals manager, today! The Chamber recently piloted a Young Professionals' Ambassadors Program with five local employers. More than 70 volunteer ambassadors from Leadership Columbus are on-call to help employers provide their recruits with an un-biased, but enthusiastic endorsement of life in the Columbus Region. The YP Ambassadors Program provides the employer with an additional tool to assist with their recruiting efforts as we understand employers need help selling Columbus to folks who are unfamiliar with our region.
